Columbia River Subdivision
After ascending the Trinidad Grade and rounding the horseshoe, the line passes through a basalt ridge by way of a tunnel. The area just on the other side (east) of the tunnel is called Crater. It is a area of small pocket lakes surrounded by massive volcanic cliffs that give the area the look of being surrounded by craters. With in a half mile or so the grade flattens and reaches the central columbia basin and the town of Quincy, WA. From here it is a fast track to Spokane.
